Recreational Summer Reading List for Moms

July 7 by Janssen

To upload to my mobile reader for afternoons at the park!

The last time our in-house librarian, Janssen, put together a recreational reading list it was a huge hit so I asked her to give us another one for the summer. I'm uploading all of her picks to my mobile kindle reader so I can fit in a little summer reading while the kids play at the park. (Don't worry - I'll take lots of breaks to push them on the swings too.) Summer is here, and for me that means checking out giant stacks of books to read over the summer. If you're looking for something to … [Read more...]

10 Best Ways To Organize Art Supplies

I recently mentioned my newly rekindled desire to set up a tinkering/creation station in our new house for the kids. So - of course - I had to put our resident professional organizer on the job to make sure I had all the resources I needed to get it done right. Here's Annie with her ideas on how to create a beautifully functional and organized art space for your kiddos. P.S. Creating a space like this is also IDEAL for using with our free summer B.O.R.E.D. printable. School's out for … [Read more...]

My Plan for Losing the Baby Weight: Gym Quality Pilates & The Barre Method at Home

July 1 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

How I'm using Pilates and The Barre Method to lose the baby weight - These are my two favorite forms of exercise, makes such pretty long & lean muscles!

We hit a couple of huge postpartum milestones around here recently. Not only did baby M turn 3 months (adios 4th trimester!), I also graduated from physical therapy for my back issues. (You may remember I was T-boned not once, but twice!, during the third trimester of my pregnancy). That means we are doing a little happy dance for more sleep, a more engaged baby, and the go-ahead to start working out! It also means it's time to get serious about losing this baby weight... For some reason … [Read more...]

4th of July Breakfast Treat

June 30 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

Easy 4th of July breakfast the kids can make themselves - see post for yogurt sauce recipe

As evidence by The Summer of Yes! last week, I've been doing some reflecting on my parenting style lately. One of the things I've realized is that, yes, I do enjoy planning holiday surprises for my kiddos.  But also, no, I don't enjoy it when said surprise takes an inordinate amount of time and effort to achieve. Simple = fun, complicated and showy = a stressed out mama and less than overjoyed kids. So in that spirit, I've put together a super simple 4th of July breakfast idea over on … [Read more...]

My Summer Mantra

June 22 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

"I will listen more, speak less, and remember I want my kids to feel heard so that they will continue to talk. I will remember I only have 13 summers left with all 3 of them. I will remember it doesn't have to be perfect... If we're late, or it rains, or someone gets sunburned and we only make it to see two of the animal exhibits in the entire zoo, it's OK because what my littles will remember most is not where we went or even what we did, but how I made them feel...." - the list goes on, love it all

Before critiquing, correcting, or criticizing I will ask myself, "Is this really an issue or is it just annoying me?" (Endless potty jokes - I'm looking at you.)   I will remember when they're cackling like deranged maniacs instead of eating their lunch (despite being asked to sit still and chew no less than 37 times) that one of my biggest dreams in life was a house full of giggling, joyful, healthy kids.   When they ask to do something that is messy, time-consuming, … [Read more...]

June 19 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

I'm geeking out over all the awesome open-ended and STEAM activities here!

Around here summer is the season for lots and lot of hands on play. This is partly to keep mom (that's me) from going nuts, and partly to keep our littles' brains stimulated and learning. The only flaw with this summertime mantra of play? It can be rather difficult to think of creative, open-ended ideas to fill our days! Which is why I'm so excited to tell you about the new book from one of my very favorite blogging friends, Rachelle over at TinkerLab. TinkerLab: A Hands-On Guide … [Read more...]
