Have you guys noticed that decorating kids' spaces can be one of the most interesting spots in the house to tackle? I think it's because I feel like I can go a little bolder, a little more creative, and a little more "outside the box" then I might in other rooms. Also, I'm not as afraid to DIY it - kids rooms are supposed to be about imagination and joy, not perfection, so it doesn't matter if my projects don't turn out professional grade. That being said, this ridiculously cool artwork … [Read more...]
DIY Easter Centerpiece: Leather and Felt Colorblock Vases
I have to admit, with three small kids in the house, I don't have a lot of time for DIY projects anymore. These days I'm more about simple activities to keep the kids entertained more than pinterest-worthy crafts. There's something about spring, though, that always inspires me to want to do something to spruce up my abode. Even if it's something small. And, of course, Easter is always a great opportunity to get creative. I love this smart little project Julie put together for us. It's a … [Read more...]
Super Simple Art: Stained Glass Paintings
My great aunt passed away at the age of 101 (she almost made it to 102) last week and baby M and I made a quick over-and-back trip for the funeral yesterday. It was actually a really nice trip but it meant that things have been pretty quite around here. … [Read more...]
Make It: Thumbprint Heart Jewelry Dishes
Happy Friday guys! I’m stopping in to share a LOVE-ly little project I've put together for 31 Days of Love over at Red Ted Art. This has turned out to be one of my favorite DIY projects ever! It's so kid-friendly and the results are really stunning. These sweet Thumbprint Heart Jewelry Dishes would, of course, be perfect for Valentine's Day but I also want to really encourage you to make one with your kids and use it to store your #5ringstostopyelling. It will be just another powerful … [Read more...]
New Year’s Eve Hour-by-Hour Countdown Activity for Kids
I have never attempted to let my daughter stay up until the New Year before. I am actually contemplating it this year, so I am armed and ready with an activity that will keep her entertained through all the hours until the ball drops. I made this fun poster with a little punch out circle for each hour leading up to midnight - kind of like an advent calendar for New Year's Eve. Each hour we have either an interesting question to discuss or an activity to do as a family. This is easy to put … [Read more...]
Kid Craft: DIY Washi Tape Christmas Stars
Looking for a fun craft to do with your kids, that won't add any more stress to the holiday season? These little stars are festive, super quick to make, and just a little addicting. They are cute as ornaments, but work equally well strung together as a garland. Plus, they are … [Read more...]
Thanksgiving Craft: Family Hands Turkey
Here's a quick and messy little art project for you to tackle with the family this weekend. I first did this at C's toddler group years ago, but it wasn't quite as impressive with only three handprints to fill it out. Now, as a family of five, we make quite the turkey - if I do say so myself. (Although I didn't manage to get all the full cooperation of all three kids until after the project was photographed - imagine that - so you'll just have to settle for a 4-handed turkey for today.) Check … [Read more...]
Kid-Friendly DIY Holiday Decor: Stamped Napkins
The holiday season seems to be the time for DIY decor. I don't know if it's an attempt to avoid spending bucket loads of money on spendy store-bought decorations, or just the endearing memories that are created sitting around a table together getting our craft on, but even the most creatively-challenged amongst us seem to be up for a DIY or two this time of year. I think it's fantastic, of course, and today we've got the perfect activity to get your started. It's one of those rare projects … [Read more...]
Halloween Craft: Dry Erase Ghost Votives
It's that time of year again... Time for ghosts, witches, and goblins to make their spooky appearances. Mwah ha ha ha! (That was my best evil laugh, in case you couldn't tell.) Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday, because it's all about creativity. For that reason, it's also the perfect holiday to do crafts with the family. This year, we decided to add to our porch decor by making Dry Erase Ghost Votives. … [Read more...]
