11 Ingenious Ways to Keep Kids Active When Stuck Inside

February 6 by Kristin

Rainy day play ideas for when kids are stuck insides.

We're having a major snow day today- no school, around 8 inches of fresh snowfall... and no power! Which means that after an epic 4-hour neighborhood backyard playdate, I have happy kids, sopping wet snow clothes with no dryer at my disposal, and still about 8 hours of day left to fill. Today is the PERFECT day for this post. Thank you Kristin... We were all waiting for the rain and snow last year when El Nino was expected to hit.  My husband even bought a generator in preparation.  We … [Read more...]

2 Ingredient Valentine’s Day Treat: Mini Cherry Pies

January 31 by Kristin

Two ingredient mini cherry pies - such an easy and fun Valentine treat to make with the kids!

It's hard to believe that something as cute as mini-cherries pies can be made with two ingredients. These are actually one of the easiest recipes I've made lately and the presentation is to-die-for cute. I'd whip these up for the kids' classes at school or just as a special treat on Valentine's Day. Just head to the market and pick up a 24 pack of pre-made sugar cookies and some cherry pie filling.  I have a mini-muffin tin, but if you don't you can use a regular muffin tin. Your crust … [Read more...]

Healthy Eating: My Favorite Meatless Monday Meal

January 9 by Kristin

meal planning, vegetarian dinner recips

Let's start the year out fresh.  Let's eat all the vegetables and prep healthy meals like it's our full-time job! I've embraced 'Meatless Monday' as a way to incorporate more greens and get in the habit of eating a little cleaner. This is my go-to recipe for Meatless Monday. The kids love it and it incorporates an entire bag of arugula. This is also a relatively inexpensive meal, so it's perfect if you have extra guests.  I just add a crusty loaf of bread or some rolls on the side and … [Read more...]

Top 9 Holiday Drinks for Kids

December 12 by Kristin

Kids holiday drinks - Fun mocktails to make for the kids this Christmas and New Years Eve!

Let's face it, the holidays are for kids! All the activities and traditions are so our kids will have wonderful memories of this special season. My husband, for example, grew up with his  mom making wassail during the month of December.  She had a special crockpot she would put it in and the kids looked forward to it every year.  Even as an adult, he still looks forward to it every year. You could keep things simple and buy packages of hot cocoa for our kids as a special holiday treat.  … [Read more...]

Candy Cane Christmas truffles - kids will have so much fun making these, especially smashing the candy canes!

You've heard those desserts with the word 'crack' in the title?  Crack Pie or Christmas Crack...basically anything that makes your tastebuds go crazy. It's the type of dessert that makes you lose all self-control and the next thing you know, you've eaten half the recipe.  These truffles should probably have the word crack in the title.  The 4 ingredient recipe is delightfully simple and the presentation is magazine-worthy. Chatbooks: An Honest Review from a Professional Photographer

October 17 by Kristin

I'm always so interested to hear how pro photographers deal with saving their own special memories. So when I found out our contributor (and photographer), Kristin, is a fan of the service Chatbooks, I asked her to write a post on why she loves it. Psst - Don't forget, you can get a free Chatbook along with lots of other cool stuff as part of the "Time for You" Bundle, ENDING TODAY! Years ago, I'd spend hours putting together an album every year for my family photos.  It was a time consuming … [Read more...]

Our Favorite (Quick!) Breakfast for Fall

September 18 by Kristin

Healthy Breakfast: Pumpkin Spice Instant Oatmeal with pecans and cinnamon. Yumm!

*This post is sponsored by The Quaker Oats Company, all opinions are 100% our own. With my kids back in school, I've made wholesome breakfasts a priority. I try to switch things up throughout the week so my kids aren't eating the same cereal every day. I want them to feel fueled as they head out to a full day of school.  But, let's be honest...I often don't have the time to cook a big breakfast. I need a quick breakfast for my kids that's also delicious and satisfying. Oatmeal … [Read more...]
