As the weather cools, there's nothing like a big hearty bowl of soup to end the day. I personally love setting up my crock pot, so I can come home to a simmering soup, just waiting to be scooped into bowls and topped with a crusty piece of buttered bread. Even though this is where my heart is this fall, it may not necessarily what my kids would like for dinner. Let's face it... chicken nuggets, pizza and mac and cheese will always rule. But, what if we could come up with some … [Read more...]
Must-Try Lunch Box and After School Snack Hacks
*This post is sponsored by Stonyfield YoKids, all opinions are 100% our own. Every year, just before school starts, I buy my kids a new lunch box and new ice packs to go with it. The ice packs tend to get dirty, broken or lost before the end of the year. But, in order for my kids to eat their homemade lunch, the veggies need to be crisp, the sandwich cool and the yogurt ice cold. I recently discovered my favorite new trick for packing lunches...freezing the yogurt. Not … [Read more...]
Dinner Tonight: Pizza Night with a Summer Twist!
I was compensated for this review of Papa Murphy’s and KC Masterpiece. All opinions and statements remain 100% my own. #SummerAt425 #Ad Is there anything better than pizza night?! I have such great memories of regular movie and pizza nights as a kid and we're definitely keeping up the tradition around here. Plus, not having to cook is always a big win right? Restaurant pizza can be spendy, though, so we often grab a couple pizzas on the way home from work to go with our Friday … [Read more...]
Summer Snacking: Tangy Orange Tangerine Creamsicles
One of my favorite parts of summer is having more time to make homemade treats with the kids! With all of the sports and after-school activities during the school year, I never seem to have any extra time to spend in the kitchen with my kids, so I love to do it as much as possible during the summer. My littles absolutely love spending time with me pouring and mixing and I see it as a great time to connect. Plus, getting them comfortable in the kitchen is an important life skill. Today … [Read more...]
5 Healthy Chia Seed Recipes Your Family Needs to Try
There's a day for everything and today is, you guessed it, National Chia Seed Day. I’m sure you know that chia seeds are all the rage amongst super foods, and for good reason. They are a great source of omega3s, fiber, and antioxidants. But the very best thing about chia seeds? They're one of the few superfoods that are actually really easy to get kids to eat! Just use one of the kid-tested recipes below... #1 - Happy Green Smoothie Ingredients: a handful of … [Read more...]
CopyCat Recipe: Sees Candy Peanut Butter Easter Eggs
As a kid, I always looked forward to the Easter baskets my grandma sent. We lived a small town which only had a drug store to carry Easter candy. Think chalky tasting Russell Stover's chocolates. My grandma lived in the big city...so she sent us See's Candy Easter Eggs. These things were gold. They no longer carry the chocolate peanut butter egg. Now it's the Chocolate Butter Egg and I'm sure it's equally as delicious. This Easter, though, I was on a mission to bring back the peanut … [Read more...]
Make It: Donut Easter Bunny Surprise
Easter is about a month away, so it's time to roll out the ideas. We're kicking things off with Alli and her super cute bunny donut idea, perfect for Easter. We'll probably make ours Saturday morning since we do family brunch on Easter Sunday. Here's how to make yours... Who says you can't play with your food? Especially your kids' food. Our home activity theme for this month is Easter, so I was determined to surprise Isaiah with a bunny breakfast at some point. And I just loved how … [Read more...]
2 Ingredient Valentine’s Day Treat: Mini Cherry Pies
It's hard to believe that something as cute as mini-cherries pies can be made with two ingredients. These are actually one of the easiest recipes I've made lately and the presentation is to-die-for cute. I'd whip these up for the kids' classes at school or just as a special treat on Valentine's Day. Just head to the market and pick up a 24 pack of pre-made sugar cookies and some cherry pie filling. I have a mini-muffin tin, but if you don't you can use a regular muffin tin. Your crust … [Read more...]
Meal Planning Made Easy – A Prep Dish Review
One of my big resolutions for the year is to finally get on top of meal planning. Yes, I've made this resolution in the past but this year I have a secret weapon; the meal planning service Prep Dish. I asked my contributor, Kaley, to review it for me and, based on her experience, we're starting at our house next week. If you'd like to learn more, here's Kaley with her thoughts... Last year, my husband and I did the Whole30. For those of you who haven't heard of the Whole30, it is … [Read more...]
