My minimalist mom capsule wardrobe was so popular the last few years (and made dressing each day so fun and easy) that I couldn’t wait to do it again this year. Only a little better.
Why? Because I’ve done my very best this year to keep my picks as inexpensive as possible– the majority being under $30!
Every piece here is a proven winner– that shirt, cardigan, hoodie, and pair of jeans that you’ll reach for again and again. These are the items that keep us comfortably chasing the kids all day- cotton, denim, and sneakers- done in such a laid-back-chic way.
The secret is to pick a simple color scheme for easy mix and matching. This year it’s all about creamy corals and wines, olive greens, and lovely grey blues.
The result is a high-performing, workhorse of a wardrobe that will give you an effortlessly cool look every day of the week.
Ribbed Henley
Was $48, Now $28.80
I have a love/hate relationship with henley shirts. They’re super warm but are often unforgivenly tight and too long. I really like the shorter style of this one, perfect for high waisted jeans.
Popover Shirt
Was $58, Now $29
The popover shirt is the flannel’s older, cooler cousin. Super chic worn tucked into high-wasted jeans, layered over a dress and tied in front, or peeking out under a hoodie.
Women’s Plaid Long Sleeve Cotton Flannel Shirt
$19.99
I always have to have at least one quality plaid shirt (I’m from Seattle, are you surprised?) They’re so great for layering under vests and sweaters… but they aren’t all equal. This one is nice and soft, and I love the feminine colors.
Long Sleeve Crewneck Button Front Peasant Top
$24.99
The perfect transition piece before the weather gets truly cold and also great for layering when it does. Sometimes collars bug me, so I really like that this shirt has all the benefits of a button-up shirt without having one. Plus, the sleeves are so pretty!
Women’s High-Rise Flare Jeans
$27.99
I wear A LOT of jeans (like every day that I’m not wearing yoga pants during the 9 months of the year it’s not sunny here). So when I find a pair that gives me a chance to show off a little flair without going crazy, I get excited.
These do exactly that, literally, and the lines are so flattering!
Women’s Camo Print High-Rise Leggings
$14
These fun camo leggings are a great way to punch up a boring outfit. Use them as the sole attention getter with the cream shirts and cardigans listed here.
Alternatively, believe it or not, you can also pair them with those pieces plus one of the patterned shirts and it will totally work in an edgy way.
High Rise True Skinny Jeans with Secret Smoothing Pockets
$69.95
We all know by now that high rise jeans are a mom’s best friend but these go a step farther with “secret smoothing pockets”.
Women’s Corduroy Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans
$27.99
Is there anything more quintessentially fall than a pair of cords?! They always make me think of back-to-school shopping as a kid.
The deep color of this pair is beautiful.
Slouchy Scoopneck Sweater
Was $58, Now $44.99
Slouchy, cozy and the perfect thing to tie together all the colors in this capsule wardrobe.
Women’s Striped Casual Fit Long Sleeve Hooded Shirt
Was $22.99, Now $15
I always like to have a cute hoodie in case of rain this time of year. This one is perfect and only $15!
Asymmetrical Snap-Up Fleece
Was $68, Now $47.60
If your kid has an outside sport, this is the top you must buy! Take it from this Pacific Northwesterner, cozy plush fleece is luxuriously warm – especially when layered under a coat on a cold and windy field.
I have this in blue and love it and it’s interesting neckline.
Soft A&F Full-Zip Hoodie
Was $58, Now $40.60
I love me a stylish sweatshirt! Because honestly, if I can wear sweats all day and still look good, I’m gonna do it!
The deep color of this one also makes it easy to dress up.
Honeycomb Long Sleeve Open Neck Layering Sweater
$27.99
The honeycomb texture on this thicker cardigan is so unique and eye-catching. Looks like it should be selling for at least twice the price.
Long-Sleeve Soft A&F Tee
Was $24, Now $15
I’ve come to despise basic tees.
Why? Because they can make any outfit look dowdy. This twist on the boring basic tee is a great way to up your style points on any outfit you put together and you can’t beat that sale price!
Women’s Long Sleeve Collared Labette Denim Woven Shirt
$19.99
Probably the most versatile piece of the bunch. You can wear this all year long layered over shirts or dresses with shorts or pants.
Women’s Plaid Sleeveless Ruffle Midi Dress
$27.99
Midi dresses are the perfect length. They mostly keep you covered and warm but aren’t so long that they trip you up all day.
Plus, they can easily be dressed up or down and I love the sweet western design of this one. Just the thing for taking pictures in a pumpkin patch with the kids.
Women’s Essential Solid Denim Jacket
$19.99
The faded detailing and slightly longer fit on this coat creates a more laid-back look.
Air Zoom Vomero 14 Running Shoe
Was $140, Now $69.95
The biggest priority for me when choosing shoes is always comfort. As such, in the fall and winter I pretty much live in a pair of cool tennis shoes and rain boots.
These are my chosen pair for this year, the perfect color scheme and my brand of choice; Nike.
Reversible Pom-Pom Ribbed Beanie
$24.95
Because heat escapes from the head! (Plus, backup for the days you don’t feel like doing your hair.)
Women’s Saltwater Wool Embossed Duck Boot w/ Thinsulate™
$120
I’m on my 2nd pair of Perry Saltwater boots, after loving and wearing my first pair for years. They’re so easy to slip on and off and I get compliments on them all the time.
Women’s Rope Buckle Billet Tab Belt
$24.99
The final piece to tie everything together!
