Midweek Musings: What’s the Perfect Distance from Extended Family?

February 27 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

Last week I had a play date with a friend who also has two kids, except her youngest is only 6 months old and her oldest is nearly 3 - a period of life when a mama can always use some extra help (But that's kind of all the time isn't it? A period of time when a mama can especially use extra help?).  She was having one of those pull-your-hair-out/go-cry-in-the-corner kind of days we've all had.  And over coffee she was lamenting that none of her extended family lives in-state to help out on a … [Read more...]

DIY Watercolors, Plus a New Art Magazine for Kids

February 26 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

DIY watercolors

Recently, a local mom emailed to ask if I would share with you guys a new venture she's starting.  I was so enamored with her project - a new, high quality art magazine just for kids, ArTree - that I immediately jumped on board.  Here's everything you need to know about the new magazine (including what you can do to make sure it gets published!) as well as fun art project for the littles. With so many public schools not being able to offer art programs for the kids, art education can be … [Read more...]

Five Parenting Reads Worth Your Precious Time

February 25 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

top parenting books

It's one of my favorite days of the month - the day when resident MPMK librarian Janssen once again stops by and shares a new list of her favorite picks with us.  Did you guys have book orders at school growing up?  I used to get so excited when a new one would arrive. This kind of feels like that - Janssen always makes such amazing recommendations, I can never wait to devour her latest list.  Hope you guys enjoy as much as I do. P.S. QUESTION OF THE DAY What's the one parenting book (or book … [Read more...]

Virtual Book Club: What Should We Read Next?

February 22 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

It's time to pick a new book for Virtual Book Club folks (yipeeee).  Before we get to the choosing, a few new ground rules... I think you'll all agree that our inaugural book stretched on for an epicly loooong time.  This time around we're going to attack the thing in much larger chunks.  Here are the proposed steps: Take a vote [Today]: We'll do that here in just a bit.  Don't forget that write-ins are totally welcome on the ballot. Announce our book [Friday March 1st] : Keep an eye … [Read more...]

Midweek Musings: How Do You Know When Your Family’s “Complete”?

February 20 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

How do you know when you're done having kids and your family is complete?

When it comes to family planning, to date I have been a very private, if not down-right sneaky, individual - not really letting any friends or family in on the fact that we were trying until the trying was done.  But recently something strange came over me. … [Read more...]

Friday Share: Make a Memory Library

February 15 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

Happy Friday friends.  Did everyone have a good Valentine's Day?  Any big plans for the weekend? It's my dad's birthday today (Happy birthday Dad!) so we're loading up the kids and making the two hour drive to see my parents for the weekend. We don't do much TV at home but on the road... a total Godsend.  The plan is to eat dinner, zip the kids into their footie PJs, bundle them up with blankies and lovies, put in Brave and sail smoothly down the road. Before that though, I've got lots of good … [Read more...]

How To Capture Memories with Your Phone While Still Being a Part of Them

February 14 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

Happy Valentine's Day!  Since today's all about love, I thought what better to share today than ideas on how best to document all of those loving (also funny, exasperating, etc.) moments we experience as parents. When I stumbled upon the description of Kristin Roger's The Inspired Home photography course, I was instantly smitten. As a mother in the trenches, I find her approach so very appealing, "fundamental yet inspiring topics related to photography, home life, and managing it all with joy … [Read more...]

Virtual Book Club: Conclusion

February 13 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

We're finally wrapping up our book, Buddhism for Mother's of Young Children, today!  Although I have truly loved this book, I'm not so crazy about the way I handled book club - one book just dragged on way too long. So some changes will be made but I think it will all be for the best in the end.  In the meantime, lets wrap up the last three chapters, all of which I really enjoyed because I felt they were filled with concrete ways to implement the author's ideas. CHAPTER 8: CAN I CHANGE MY … [Read more...]

Candy-Free Valentine: Cleaning Baskets the Whole Family Will Love

February 10 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

You know what's great about having toddlers around? They actually want to clean! It's a treat to them.  So much so that I'm giving my littles cleaning baskets for Valentine's Day because I know they'll adore them - not because the net result will be a cleaner home for me (that's just a bonus). Actually, I already gave my tots a sneak peak of the goods so I could show you how much they loved their new kits... Love them they did and I'm positive your kids will feel the same. Unless they've … [Read more...]
