Do you guys know about the iPhone’s burst mode? If not, you HAVE to read this tutorial – it will make a huge impact on the pics you get of the kids. And it’s so easy too!
What I love most about my Canon 5D Mark III (the professional camera I use for my job as a children’s photographer) is the quick response.
I click the shutter when I see the shot I want and I know there’s going to be no delay. I can time my shots perfectly. And, when you’re working with kids who move quickly, you need a fast camera! If there’s even a half second delay, the moment is gone.
That same fast shutter mode can be re-created with the iPhone too! It’s called Burst Mode. I like to use Burst Mode when I’m trying to get the perfect expressions from my kids and it works wonders.
Sometimes you get kids into the right position, the lighting is right and they can’t seem pull to out their natural smile at the moment I’m clicking the shutter.
That’s where the burst mode feature automatically available in IOS 7 (iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 I believe), comes in so handy!
I’m sitting here on the grass with my son and my plan is to use Burst Mode while I tell him a knock-knock joke.
I start by framing him up on the screen, then I start talking. As I’m talking, I just hold down the shutter button.
As I’m holding it down, the camera is taking pictures. So, when I’m done, my phone is filled with photos of all his different expressions.
I can scroll through the photos to see if I got any good ones. Then I use ‘Select’ in the top right corner to choose the photos I want to keep and delete the rest.
That little knock-knock joke combined with Burst Mode gave me the perfect natural smile from my middle-schooler. Which is a rare feat! You know what I mean if you have a middle-schooler.
Maybe you don’t have a middle-schooler, maybe you have a squirmy toddler. You can benefit from Burst Mode too. It’s such an easy tool to nail the perfect shot every time.
I also love to use it at my kids’ sporting events. As they are running around the field, I can capture all the action.
Just don’t forget to clean up your photos when you’re done. Select the ones you want and delete the rest. If you don’t, you’ll run out of space on your phone!
