POYEL: Free Closet Sorting Printables

February 16 by MJ at Pars Caeli

You guys went so crazy over this idea to get the kids to put away their own clothes, that we came up with another Project Organize Your ENTIRE Life idea aimed at getting the kids (and the hubby) to do even more to get those closets sorted.

And, once again, this one comes with a free printable to help you do it!

Here’s MJ with the details…

Maybe it’s the new year or the winter snows, but my children are all going through growth spurts right now.

Their drawers and closets contain a lot of clothes that are either too warn or too small. How do you keep their drawers and closets in any kind of order?

We’re trying a new system that my children can handle all on their own!

For us, the closet floors are the best place (with a bit of empty space) to collect and sort through the clothes that are too small or too big.

In my daughters’ shared bedroom, we put  two bins on the closet floor. As my oldest discovers sweaters with sleeves too short and my youngest finds hand-me-downs that still don’t fit, they can toss them in to one of the two bins.

Taking the clothes out of the cramped spaces was a giant step in the right direction.

Along with these closet additions, I’ve also started keeping three new bins in the laundry room: keep, donate, and consign. That way when I run across an item that no longer fits, I can take care of it immediately.

The idea being that when they are full, I can pop the donate and consign bins in my car for delivery and transfer the stuff from the “keep bin” to the “too big bin” of the younger sibling inheriting it.

Formerly all of these clothes would end up in a lump somewhere in our house, and my stress levels would build as the piles grew.

The simple step of labeling the piles has allowed everyone to pitch in. We all know where the bag is for donations, and we can remind each other to take it with us once a week when we drive by the drop boxes.

It really is as easy as that. Print the one page sheet of closet sorting labels onto sticker paper or card stock and set yourself on the right track for a more organized home.
