Guess What I’m Up To!

If you’re an MPMK facebook fan or twitter follower, then you already know what I’ve been up to today.  If not, here’s a hint:

UPDATE: IT’S FINISHED – CHECK IT OUT HERE!

I’ve been plotting some kind of writing center for C ever since I posted about this amazing set up back in MPMK’s infancy.  I’m still very much considering buying that exact center when C gets a little older.  Lately, though, the art supplies have piled up and visions of some type of writing/art hybrid station have been bouncing around my head.

Like most things on my to-do list, this one has just been lingering around (for almost 5 months now).  Then Christie over at Childhood 101 put out some great posts this month on toddler writing centers (here and here).  I decided it was a sign and my three day weekend plans were made!

For now, this little sneak peek is all I have to share with you but be ready for the full monty very soon.  (Update: I finished it and shared it here.) Until then I’ve done my thing and rounded up a few more especially clever art center ideas.  Click through for the goods.

First up is this ingenious idea for your tiniest artists and writers.  With the simple addition of some crayons and a piece of paper, Melissa at Chasing Cheerios transformed the bottom level of her kitchen shelves into a mini art desk.

For the slightly older set, there’s this easy-peasy art tray over a Just a Girl (via Ucreate with kids).   The attractive set-up and easy access of this one will beckon to any kid that passes by it.

This Tiered Pie Tin Organzier from MaryJanes and Galoshes (via ohdeedoh) is kind of like the last project on steroids.  I think this might be just the thing to attract older kids who no longer light up at the sight of a box of crayons.  Plus it only cost $6 to make.

And speaking of low-cost projects – check out this awesome display system from laissezfaire.  All you need for this one are some up-cycled tin cans, a cookie sheet and some magnets. (Plus some labels if you’re going for the extra pretty factor.)

I hope these ideas have you excited for the big reveal.  And a big thank you to everyone who has already completed MPMK’s first ever reader survey – more on that soon!
