#FridayFamilyFavs: A Newbery Award Winner My 2nd Grader Loves

February 17 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

#FridayFamilyFavs: Love, love this Newbery Award winner - it's my 2nd grader's current favorite!

I’ve got a very short and sweet #FridayFamilyFavs for you today… Just two things we are currently loving around here.

#1 Elementary Reading – From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

My son picked up a copy of the Newbery Medal winner, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, at our public library a few weeks ago and absolutely flew through it!

From the Amazon Editorial Review…

After reading this book, I guarantee that you will never visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (or any wonderful, old cavern of a museum) without sneaking into the bathrooms to look for Claudia and her brother Jamie.

They’re standing on the toilets, still, hiding until the museum closes and their adventure begins. Such is the impact of timeless novels . . . they never leave us.

E. L. Konigsburg won the 1967 Newbery Medal for this tale of how Claudia and her brother run away to the museum in order to teach their parents a lesson. Little do they know that mystery awaits!

#2 Book Darts

I heard about these from the charming Ann Bogel and I love them so much I gifted them to two of my besties around Christmas time.

They are the perfect way to mark up your books without actually marking up your books– great for library books that you can’t take a pen too.

They’re also great because, unlike just underlining or highlighting in a book, these pretty markers make it easy to find everywhere that you’ve made notes just by looking at the sides of the pages. My favorites are the pretty bronze versions.

Happy weekend!
