DIY Easter Centerpiece: Leather and Felt Colorblock Vases

March 16 by Julee

DIY Spring decor: Colorblock Vases - Love the big impact you get from the bold color and interesting textures you use in this simple project. I'm going to make several for my Easter centerpiece!

I have to admit, with three small kids in the house, I don’t have a lot of time for DIY projects anymore. These days I’m more about simple activities to keep the kids entertained more than pinterest-worthy crafts.

There’s something about spring, though, that always inspires me to want to do something to spruce up my abode. Even if it’s something small. And, of course, Easter is always a great opportunity to get creative.

I love this smart little project Julie put together for us. It’s a no-fuss activity that everyone in the family can do together and the bright pop of colors make such a great impact.

Here she is with the full instructions…

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring for what seems like weeks. It’s not just the warm weather I love about this time of year, it’s the renewed focus on making our home clean and beautiful.

A couple of weeks ago, I got a head start on the beautiful part by upgrading a few simple glass vases with leather and felt in cheerful spring-time hues. This is one of those projects that’s so simple, it barely needs a tutorial. The key is selecting a gorgeous color palette.

I spotted the turquoise felt at the craft store and just knew I wanted to build a project around it for Easter.

Materials: Spring-hued felt and leather.

To create the colorblock vases, I started by assembling the following materials:

  • Felt
  • Leather (I purchased an 8″ x 10″ piece at Michaels)
  • A variety of cylindrical glass vases and/or candle holders (this is a great set and price)
  • Scissors
  • Glue (I used Mod Podge but fabric glue would also work)
  • Sponge paint brush (for gluing)
  • Pattern (download and print the scallop border pattern here or create your own)
  • Marker (for tracing)

Use a pattern to create a scalloped border.

Start by measuring the circumference of your glass vases and cutting the felt and leather in strips in that length and varying widths.

Next, cut a scallop pattern to a few of the fabric pieces using this scallop border pattern.

I used a chalk marker to trace the pattern on the fabric, but a regular marker would work too.

Materials: Spring-hued felt and leather.

Once your fabric pieces are ready, decide how you will mix-and-match the colors on your vases. You can stack or layer the fabric to get the look you want.

Add glue to both inner edges of the fabric panel, wrap around the vase so the fabric overlaps slightly and then press down firmly and hold for a minute or so until the fabric seems to stay.

Create a vibrant floral display for spring with this simple update to basic glass vases.

I think the vivid hues of the vases paired with simple white lilies are just the thing to brighten any Easter table but these would also be gorgeous filled with colorful Easter candies.

The possibilities for a custom centerpiece really are endless!
