Thank you Honey Bunches of Oats® Frosted Cereal for sponsoring this post. Now available at major retailers nationwide!
This time of year, my kids’ after school activities start to really take over our schedule, especially All. The. Sports.
Skiing for all three is wrapping up, we just had little league baseball tryouts for my oldest son, AND my daughter decided to start basketball. No joke, in the spring we’re often gone during dinnertime as many as four out of five weeknights.
That means we don’t get together around the family dinner table nearly as often as I’d like. I know we’re not alone in this; tons of families spend their weeknights shuttling kids around instead of being able to spend time together.
I know that, but it doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it. As a busy mom of three, squeezing in time to just sit around and talk with my kids is super important to me.
One way I’ve been stealing quality time with them during this busy season is by focusing on the first meal of the day instead of the last.
Of course, there were a few things working against me with this plan.
First, it gets light later in the morning this time of year. That means the kids are less motivated than ever to get out of bed. They need something extra awesome to get excited about at that hour. And, as all parents know, if your kid is being quiet (and maybe even a touch sullen), there’s very little you can say to draw them out of it.
This alone could have very easily tanked my plan before I ever got started.
Second, if I want to have time for us all to actually talk and connect before rushing off to school, I need a super quick and easy breakfast ready to go.
With three kids and two different school drop offs this year, I don’t have time to even fire up the stove if I want to be able to sit down with them at breakfast… enter Honey Bunches of Oats® Frosted Cereal.
That’s right, the Honey Bunches of Oats brand that’s known for offering cereal medleys everyone loves is now available frosted! (That noise you hear in the background is my kids squealing with glee.)
This was a total home run for all three of them (and for me)! In fact, our first box only lasted us a couple days.
The kids were fast to claim their bowls each day. Before I knew it, the box was empty and they were writing on our shopping list that we need more.
When they put it on the shopping list, you know they mean business.
I’ve always loved the delightful sweetness of Honey Bunches of Oats® and the crunchy goodness of the granola bunches that give it an extra dimension most boring cereals lack. Adding the frosting is (quite literally) like icing on the cake.
Plus, only having to have one box of cereal in the pantry, because we all think it’s delicious, is a huge space-saver.
Also, remember those ski lessons I mentioned? The kids have to get up at 5:45am to make it to the mountain on time! On those days, Honey Bunches of Oats Frosted Cereal is a total lifesaver.
Grab a box, munch happily with your kids before school, and start making more connections. It’s a great way to send them to school in a positive mindset and to start your day off feeling good, too!
