The “Rabbit Diet” – A Nutritious and Fun New Lunch System for Your Kids

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  If you haven’t already, be sure to check out my free printables for a limerick treasure hunt and a shamrock temporary tattoo or sticker.

For more St. Patty’s Day fun, try imitating this yummy creation from Meet the Dubiens.  This is only the latest in a long line of awe-inspiring lunches that Jill has created as part of her Fun Food Friday series – I highly recommend you go check them out.

And while we’re on the topic of food – a lot of Jill’s meals would fit nicely into a new kid lunch system I’ve recently adopted and dubbed “the rabbit diet”.  Click through for more info.

So as it turns out, I’m not the only one that occasionally resorts to feeding my child like he’s a bird. No wait, that’s conjuring up some images of a particularly disturbing SNL skit – like he’s a rabbit.  C’s lunch menu is usually very cheese-centric and sometimes, in an effort to stay away from the cheddar, I resort to giving him a smattering of food that doesn’t really resemble an actual meal.

Until now that has been my dirty little secret. But thanks to the creative mama I don’t have to feel guilty about it anymore. Erin’s post on the right way to do this type of meal has me no longer ashamed of my lunchtime practices. And over at Parenting, they too are promoting the rabbit diet with a handy, stick-it-on-the-fridge chart.

So the moral of this story is: pick any item from each of 3 categories (proteins, veggies, and complex carbs), arrange in a funny face, and viola – a well balanced and healthy meal any parent can be proud to serve.
