First Day of School Comforts

August 26 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

Yesterday on momtastic I shared 3 Steps to Starting Preschool Off Right, the last of which was to “leave them with a little comfort”.  These first day of school hearts from Helen at Curly Birdsare perfect for doing just that – and I’m not the only one who thinks so.  Helen’s daughters’ teacher was so impressed by the idea that she asked Helen to make one for every student. If you just don’t have the time or inclination to whip one of these up, this post all about separation anxiety also features the great idea of giving your little one something of yours to hold throughout the day.

If you have an older student gearing up for a big first day, say starting middle school or high school, these instant comfort pocket boxes (via You Are My Fave) are a sweet and funny way to show them some support.

If you’re really concerned about separation anxiety rearing it’s ugly head, you might also want to get yourself a copy of You Me and the Rainbow.  You can read about one family’s positive experience using the book for exactly this purpose at Alannah Rose, (found via Lil Magoolie).

Finally, in the spirit of back-to-school I have a little announcement to make.  I’m officially designating next week book week (because nothing says academic success like literacy!).  There will be more from our summer reading list series, DIY projects, resources for picking the right books, and even a giveaway.  So see you back here on Monday when all the fun begins!
