Ever since we moved into our new home, I’ve had an ‘outdoors in’ approach to decorating. We love our backyard and enjoy the large windows that seem to bring nature into every room. This spring, I started really playing up this aspect by adding more and more houseplants to our formal living room.
Easy to care for, succulents have played a prominent role in my decorating-with-nature strategy. I don’t have the best track record with keeping indoor plants alive, but I have found that most succulents are easy to care for and don’t require a lot of maintenance or specialized knowledge. And best of all, they are a quick fix for adding an element of nature to nearly any spot in your home.
Here are a few of my favorite trends for incorporating succulents into my home decor:

My use of succulents in home decor largely falls into this mix-and-match trend. Succulents come in a large variety of shapes, colors and textures, and I love mixing these with an eclectic assortment of clay, metal, glass and wood containers to create a visually rich display.
Be Playful Sources: Inspiration / 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
I came across the above inspiration pic and immediately thought of my daughter, who loves plants, animals and displaying treasures. This would be such a fun project for her room, and we could even try this DIY project for creating animal planters.
Go Vertical Sources: Inspiration / 1 / 2 / 3
Vertical gardens are a big trend this spring and I’m hoping to incorporate a vertical display in our home soon. You can achieve this effect by installing containers along a wall or hanging a series of planters from the ceiling. I haven’t experimented with air succulents yet, but I’ve read that they are easy to care for and are well-suited to this type of display.
