About a month into the new school year seems like pretty much the ideal time to tackle a new project for our Project Organize Your ENTIRE Life series.
This week we’re teaming up with our new sponsor, DYMO, to put their LabelManager 160 to work whipping up a stream-lined mudroom that serves the needs of an entire family.
Here’s our contributor Janssen with the details…
Do you have a room in your house that has so much potential but just somehow misses the mark and ends up frustrating you instead?
I definitely do. We moved into a new home this summer with a decently-sized laundry room that leads to the garage. At first glance, it seemed like the perfect spot to act as a command center for our family.
Then, before I knew it, my oldest daughter started kindergarten and we were suddenly dealing with backpacks, lunch boxes, school library books, and papers for the first time.
Nevertheless, I was excited about the potential our laundry room/mudroom had to be a really useful spot for our family, and I got to work right away.
I put in a little bench with baskets so that we could sit down to put on shoes… but it quickly turned into a dumping ground for backpacks, shoes, and purses. Consequently there wasn’t any room to actually sit down.
I also mounted a chalkboard above the bench for writing note… but it just turned into a big empty space that never got used (mainly because, with the bench covered with stuff, it was hard to reach).
Instead of the organized command center I had envisioned, the room was a huge eyesore every time you came in or out of the house.
So when DYMO sent me their LabelManager 160, it occurred to me that a few bright labels might be all I needed to make the bench storage and chalkboard actually useful.
I’d used a label maker in the past to organize office supplies and my pantry, but I’d never thought of using it in a room like this.
Curious to see how it all turned out? Stay tuned for the after reveal later this week. (I couldn’t believe what a difference it made!)
In the meantime, you can learn more about DYMO and their entire lineup of handy-dandy labeling products here.
