A Few of My New Favorite Things

May 7 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

100 Ways to Be Kind to Your Child - One of my very favorite pieces in our whole house! Not only does it look cool, it also gives me a small daily reminder of the mom I want to be!

I realized lately I’ve been steadily filing away a lot of things I’ve wanted to share with you but – for one reason or another – haven’t yet.

No time like the present, right?

100 Ways to Be Kind to Your Child

First up is this absolutely fabulous poster, which was created by one of my Camp Mom: Summer Activities Kit co-writers, Alissa of Creative With Kids.

It arrived last week and now resides in a place of honor above the play kitchen in our play/family room (side note: this room looks nothing like this anymore – I will try to update you soon on the changes!)

It’s already such an important piece in our home. Multiple times a day I see it, usually while in the presence of my kids, and take just a second to reflect on the kind of Mama I want to be. Plus, the vintage vibe is really chic and looks great on our wall.

Stitch Fix, At Home Personal Stylist Service - A gift card here is the PERFECT Mother's Day gift (I got one for my birthday and couldn't have been happier!)Stitch Fix – Personalized Stylist in Your Mailbox

I finally took the plunge and tried Stitch Fix last month. Have you heard of it yet?

I was literally the last of my friends to know what this brilliant service is all about (I think they may take away my official “internet tastemaker” card for the offense).

In a nutshell, it’s a personal styling service done completely by mail and within a range of budgets so as to truly be accessible to everyone. I like to call it Heaven In a Box.

With three littles ages 13 months – 6 years, I never have time to shop and, thusly, often stared at my closet each day with a sense of dread.

But not anymore. Now I get 5 pieces of clothing, jewelry, shoes, and even bags sent directly to me as often as I like and within a budget I selected.

By far, the coolest part was filling out the Style Profile to help my stylist really “get me” AND making a pinterest board full of looks to share with her (a step the company highly recommends).

One more thing you should know. The idea is the box is a happy surprise – buy what you like and return what you don’t. Shipping and returns are completely free but if you keep all five items in your shipment, you get 25% off your entire purchase (woot!).

With the discount from my first shipment, I received a pair of high-end boyfriend jeans, three super cute print tops in various styles, and an extra soft and lightweight navy cardigan for $184.50.

Oh, and they have gift cards! (I got started by asking for gift cards for my birthday back in March.) So if someone you know is still looking for a good Mother’s Day idea for you, here’s that link one more time (wink, wink).

Best Ever Gift for a 1 Year Old

I wasn’t the only one with a birthday in March, baby M, quite unbelievably to me, also turned one.

When his grandma asked me for a gift idea, I immediately thought of the Haul and Ride Truck featured in our super popular 2016 Gift Guide: Best Toys for Babies & Young Toddlers.

As I wrote in the gift guide, this sucker has been arguably the best toy our family has ever owned. My oldest son first got it for his 1st birthday and for three years he played with it almost daily until the steering wheel finally snapped off.

Both he and my daughter loved to ride it, fill it up with stuff, tow with it, pull it, and push it all over the house. The design makes it nice and sturdy for the little ones and also offers flexibility in that they can ride it, push it like a walker, or fill and dump the truck bed over and over.

Not only do my 6 and 4 year olds adore pushing their little brother around (makes them feel like such important big siblings), they also get a huge kick out of sitting on the truck and having M push them around on it. M thinks this is absolutely hilarious and it’s excellent walking practice for him too.

If you’ve got a 1 – 3 year old in your house you need to get one of these, ASAP.

*In case you’re wondering – yes, that is toothpaste on the mirror in the hastily-taken selfie I snapped during a stolen 60 seconds alone in my bathroom. And, yes, baby M’s head is a little fuzzy in his photo (but that’s on him as he refuses to believe my phone isn’t a chew toy and especially delights in sticking the camera end into his mouth several times a day)… Things were starting to look a little too polished around here – just keeping it real.
