3 Ways to Give Books & Have a Party

September 2 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

It’s the official end of book week (sigh) and I figured, why not go out with a party?  Book themed celebrations are all the rage lately and I’m all for the trend.  So to wrap things up I’ve got a summary of the three main breeds of literary shin digs.

First, is “The Book Donate” party.  We all know kids get a lot of toys at birthday parties, many of which they probably don’t need.  The idea here is to have guests bring a book to donate in lieu of a gift.  The secret is to start this type of party early in your child’s life… it’ll be much easier to get away with if she’s not accustom to receiving a few dozen presents from friends every year.

Organizing one of these parties isn’t hard, check out the lovely example pictured above at Under the Sycamore for proof.  If you’d like help, though, there’s plenty of it available.  Cocodot (remember I featured them here) and the non-profit Milk + Bookies have teamed up to provide everything you could possibly need from online invitations (top photo) to book plates and donation stickers.

Click through details on two more ways to celebrate with a good read.

Similar to the book donate, “The Book Swap” is a party that replaces traditional presents with books.  This time everyone shows up with a book and everyone goes home with one.  The idea being that you trade in something old and boring for something new and novel.  See here for inspiration as well as some cute party decor.

Finally, “The Book Shower” is probably my favorite of the three.  I still vividly remember the intense nesting urges I had with both of my pregnancies and I think a book themed shower would have been just the remedy.  What sweeter way to set up shop for your new baby than by filling the nursery with your friends and family’s favorite stories?  Check out Aesthetic Nest for a cheery example.

Well, that’s it – book week is officially concluded.  Thanks so much for following along and joining in on the fun.  And don’t forget to enter the Playful Learning Book & E-Course Giveaway (over $140 value)!
