3 Spots to Find Tons of Book-Related Activities

September 2 by Steph (MPMK Founder)

Today is the last official day of Book Week and I promised you a big announcement BUT… I’ve decided to postpone it until after the holiday.  I know, I know – I’m such a tease!  I’m sorry, really and truly, but I ended up finding just too much good stuff and I couldn’t fit it all into only 4 days.  I needed today for two more stellar roundups.

First up this morning, I have three resources for finding fun activities to go along with your reading.  The Storybook Recipe series just started over at The Mother Huddle (here are installments one and two), but I can already tell it’s going to be great.

The concept is so fun, how could it not be?  It’s a compilation of guest posts in which, as you’ve probably guessed, a book review is accompanied by a kid-friendly cooking project.  Cooking and reading – two perfect activities for your next rainy day.

Have you guys heard of the e-magazine Alphabet Glue yet?  Each volume contains a collection of activities, printables and projects related to children’s literature, storytelling, reading and writing.  The  magazine’s creator, Annie, was kind enough to send me copies of the first two volumes and, I have to say, I was impressed.

I’m not sure how she manages to keep coming up with so many clever book-related activities but she’s doing a great job.  The second half of the latest issue has a spy theme that little boys (and girls) will love.  How cute is the ransom letter printable above?  Head over and get your copy of the magazine now, it’s only $4!

Last but not least, is the “A Book and A Craft” series that went on over at The Crafty Crow earlier this summer.  The name leaves little doubt about how this one works.  Cassi lined up a stellar list of bloggers to contribute and they didn’t disappoint.  The one above is my favorite but they’re all lovely (you know how I’m a sucker for a good kid craft).  Go check it out, then grab your kiddo and hit your local library.
